Obituary:
Leiko Uliana Makarivna (Dec 23, 1954 – July 15, 2019) was born in Deykalivka of the Zinkyv district, Poltava region, Ukraine. After graduating from the Department of Astronomy of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1977, she started to work at the Astronomical Observatory of this university. During 1977-2014 Uliana Leiko has occupied such positions as engineer, senior engineer, research scientist at the Department of the Solar activity and solar-terrestrial connections. Her PhD thesis was related to the “Variations of Large-Scale Magnetic Fields in the Sun and in the Heliosphere” (2004) conducted under supervision of Prof. Natalia N. Stepanian. All the works by Leiko U.M. were in the field of variations of global solar magnetism as well as the last paper, dated on 2019, was devoted to the small-scale magnetic features in the active region NOAA 11024. She participated in observations of the photosphere of the Sun in the framework of the international program "Sun Service" and in the programs of computational and photometric research at the observatory as well as she successfully collaborated with scientists from the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine. For many years Uliana Leiko has served as a Chief accountant of the Ukrainian Astronomical Association. Uliana Leiko was the IAU member, Inter-Division B-E Working Group on Coordination of Synoptic Observations of the Sun.

On Dec 9, 2019: “I am a co-chair of a working group of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) - Inter-Division B-E Working Group on Coordination of Synoptic Observations of the Sun. Dr. U. Leiko was a member of this Working Group, but we just learned from the IAU secretariat that she passed away. I am really sorry to hear this sad news.
