IAU Directory of World Astronomy wins 2015 Best Science Website Award

The IAU Directory of World Astronomy website, built to create a connection between worldwide astronomical organisations and the public, has won the Outstanding Website Award and the Best Science Website Award in the 2015 WebAwards.

The 2015 WebAwards competition, organised by the Web Marketing Association, received more than 1500 entries. Entries were judged on their website design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.

The IAU Directory of World Astronomy website gives visitors many ways to get to the organisations they’re looking for”, the competition judge commented.

These awards are undoubtedly great recognition for this ongoing project. Moreover, it gives us encouragement to prepare the next steps for the website — to add a global astronomical events calendar and localisation functionality, which will better help the public access astronomical activity information”, said Sze-leung Cheung, the IAU International Outreach Coordinator and the project leader of the website.

The website was developed by the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach and the website development company theOrigo, which is based in Hong Kong, China.
