Rationale

The IAU Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) has made significant progress in implementing the Strategic Plan 2010-2020. At the IAU General Assembly in 2015, we will be in the middle of the decade and it provides an opportune time to reflect on the impact that the OAD has made thus far, and the impact it hopes to make in the second half of the decade. This is of interest to all IAU members, more especially the many members who have participated in OAD activities, and those who wish to do so in the future. It will also be of interest to the membership because of a focus on collaborations between the OAD and each of the IAU Divisions. The question of monitoring and evaluation will be a crucial topic and applicable to any education or development programmes conducted by IAU members and beyond. We will have representation from several regional nodes and language expertise centres to report on local developments, as well as reports from selected funded projects.
