Commissions

Activities in the various astronomical sub-disciplines are mostly conducted by Commissions, coordinated through the IAU Scientific Divisions, steering the activities and evolution of one or more IAU Commissions.

The list below is that of the current Commissions,  as approved by the Executive Committee (EC95, Padova, April 15-17, 2015) and presented at the XXIXth General Assembly in Honolulu. Please find the list of past Commissions here.

In this list the Commissions are grouped by their status with respect to Divisions:

  • Regular Commissions
  • Inter-Division Commissions
  • Cross-Division Commissions

Individual Members of the Union may join or leave a Commission at any time, while belonging to no more than three Commissions. They should notify the relevant Commission Secretary and the IAU Secretariat.

Please find the Terms of Reference for Commissions here.
