The IAU General Assembly (GA) is the flagship event of the International Astronomical Union, convening every three years to advance the global science of astronomy through international cooperation. Serving as both the supreme governing mechanism and the premier scientific forum of the Union, the General Assembly spans two weeks (two five-day sessions) and brings together thousands of astronomers from across the globe and all fields of astronomy to shape the future of the discipline.
The General Assembly is where the Union conducts its core administrative business, votes on resolutions, and approves institutional policies. Beyond its governance functions, the GA hosts a world-class scientific program, which will typically feature six multi-day Symposia exploring cutting-edge breakthroughs, alongside several specialized Focus Meetings running concurrently to address emerging subfields, technology, and community initiatives. Dedicated Division Meetings and Institutional Meetings are also structurally integrated, ensuring specialized scientific bodies and the IAU Offices can align their agendas with the IAU membership.
