IAU Symposia
The IAU is currently in the process of selecting Symposia for 2027. Six of these Symposia will be held during the IAU GA, and each is expected to comprise nine 1.5 hour sessions, plus posters and a plenary. Up to three additional Symposia, not associated with the GA, will be approved. These are subject to the same requirements as Symposia held in non-GA years, although they should not, if at all possible, be scheduled within three months of the GA. While all GA Symposia must be held in person (with the possibility of having a hybrid option currently being discussed), it is possible (but not required) to request an on-line only format for non-GA Symposia.
The call for Letters of Intent (LoI) for IAU 2027 meetings is closed. All LoIs
submitted for 2027 meetings can be
found on the 2027 LoI webpage.
In non-GA years, the IAU sponsors up to nine Symposia, of which (up to) eight held in-person (with a hybrid option if requested by the organizers), and one in a fully on-line format. To cover, in part, expenses associated with attendance of participants at the meetings, the IAU provides financial
support of 20,000 EUR for each in-person or hybrid Symposium. If the budget allows, an additional of up to 15,000 EUR might be available to assist with organisational support for countries hosting a Symposium for the first time. Some logistical, but no financial support will be provided for on-line only Symposia. For further details, please refer to the Rules and Guidelines for IAU Scientific Meetings.
