Obituary:

In 1961 Romanov Yu.S. has graduated from I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University (modern name of this university) and was hired at a position of Research Scientist at the Astronomical Observatory of this university. He was engaged in research of variable stars (pulsating variables). He discovered variability of the magnetic field of RR Lyr star, observed artificial Earth’s satellites as well as he developed some devices which were necessary to process photographic spectra of stars. For many years Romanov Yu.S. was a Head of the Department of Variable Stars, as well as during last twenty years of his life he was a Vice-Rector (science division) of this university. His activity at the last years was concerns also with ecological problems. He was a Chairman of Intersectoral Committee on the environmental protection of the Odessa region, member of the Council of the scientific and engineering societies of the USSR, member of the Ecological Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He was a Deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) being a vice-chairman of the Ukraine Parliament Commission on the ecological problems and rational environmental management.
