Obituary:

It is with great sadness that we announce that Toshinori Maihara passed away on 16 February 2022, aged 79, at his home in Japan.

Toshinori Maihara is a professor emeritus at Kyoto University, one of the pioneers in the Japanese infrared astronomy. He developed two pioneering telescopes - Agematsu 1m and Seimei 3.8m in Japan, as well as several balloon-borne or ground-based instruments.
