IAU Commission Reform: Letters of Intent Received

In response to the Call for Proposals for Commissions — issued on 15 June 2014 — the IAU has received 53 Letters of Intent. This is part of a major plan to reform the IAU Divisions, which are currently constituted of 40 Commissions. The IAU asked for the submission of proposals for new Commissions as the current ones will disappear after the General Assembly 2015 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

A full list of the received Letters of Intent, numbered by the order of submission but sorted by their parent Division, is available on the IAU web page. A compilation of all the proposals, in the same order as available online, can also be downloaded as a pdf.

Interested members of the astronomical community are encouraged to contact the proposers to provide feedback, comments and suggestions, considering the upcoming preparation of full proposals. The deadline for the full proposals is 31 January 2015. Division Presidents will also provide feedback to the proposers by 15 December 2014.

As announced before, an "expression of interest" will be organized in the form of a vote within the next days, and the results will be published on a regular basis. More details will follow at the start of this process.
