IAU Vacancy: Deputy Director of International School for Young Astronomers

The Office for Young Astronomers (OYA) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) invites suitable candidates to apply for the vacant post of Deputy Director of the International School for Young Astronomers (ISYA).

The ISYA is a three-week international postgraduate school that is organised every 8 to 12 months. It preferentially considers applicants from regions where students are less likely to be exposed to up-to-date astrophysics (mainly, but not exclusively, from astronomically developing countries).

The position is not salaried, but all travel and accommodation costs will be covered. The closing date for applications is 15 April 2018. Applications and nominations should be sent before the closing date to the Chair of the OYA, Xiaowei Liu, at x.liu@pku.edu.cn. Any questions may also be directed to that address.

More Information

The IAU is the international astronomical organisation that brings together more than 10 000 professional astronomers from almost 100 countries. Its mission is to promote and safeguard the science of astronomy in all its aspects through international cooperation. The IAU also serves as the internationally recognised authority for assigning designations to celestial bodies and the surface features on them. Founded in 1919, the IAU is the world's largest professional body for astronomers.

The prime purpose of the OYA is to run the International School for Young Astronomers (ISYA). The OYA was established in 2015 by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (NASL) and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) with the aim of ensuring a robust financial and organisational basis for the operation of the ISYA program.
