New IAU Catalyst December 2020

The fourth issue of the IAU Catalyst is now available to read online.

In this volume, we hear from IAU President-elect Debra Meloy Elmegreen about the IAU in the next triennium; from protecting dark skies to promoting equity and inclusion, she writes about the ongoing projects that will progress the IAU’s mission of safeguarding and promoting astronomy in all its aspects.

On the first anniversary of the Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE), Director Markus Pössel writes about the office’s first year and plans for its second, while Beatriz Barbury writes about the recent and ongoing developments in the astronomical community in Brazil. You can also read about the IAU’s work on reporting and classifying transients from Avishay Gal-Yam, chair of the Supernova Working Group in IAU Division D. Also in this issue, the International Scientific Council (ISC) is presented by its President, Prof. Daya Reddy.

As always, this issue also includes reports on scientific meetings, and information on publications, dates and deadlines.

The Catalyst is issued twice a year, as an electronic-only bulletin. We hope you enjoy reading it and encourage you to get involved in future issues by submitting news and contributions about events or topics that you consider relevant to IAU members.

Previous issues of the IAU Catalyst are also available on the IAU website.
