Dear IAU Division D Members

Piero Benvenuti, Assistant General Secretary of the IAU Executive Committee, has notified the Division Presidents that by the deadline (Sep 15th) for submitting Letters of Intent for Symposia in 2016, only 5 were received. While this could be related to the fact that another important deadline is coming up and keeping the community busy (new IAU Commissions LoIs!), the lack of LoIs for Symposia is somewhat alarming. On behalf of our Div D President, Diana Worrall, I would like to encourage you all to consider the opportunity to organize IAU Symposia in 2016. The submission of a LoI for Symposia is not completely mandatory (it serves the purpose of letting IAU Members know which themes are likely to be covered by Symposia) and an extension of the deadline to October 31st is planned (keeping fixed the deadline of Dec 15th for submitting the full Proposals).
