Subject: Sad news regarding Neil Gehrels

We have just learned that Neil Gehrels, a wonderful colleague, friend and mentor, passed away this morning.  Neil was PI of Swift and Project Scientist for WFIRST, and had a major role in many other high energy astrophysics missions including Fermi, INTEGRAL and CGRO.  He was also President of IAU Commission D.1 on Gravitational Wave Astrophysics.

Neil had been battling pancreatic cancer.  His health declined precipitously over the past several weeks.  His wife, Ellen Williams, said that he died early this morning, that it was not unexpected and that it was peaceful and surrounded by family.

Cards may be sent to their home:
8616 57th Ave
Berwyn Heights, MD  20740.
