Topics

Topics to be addressed:

* Occurrence of outflows of cool gas and dust as traced by new submm-, mm-, and cm-wave surveys
* Physical properties of the outflows: are these the most massive and energetic components of outflows?
* Comparing low- and high-z outflow properties
* Impact for galaxy feedback: new constraints for numerical cosmological and zoom-in simulations
* Progress in quantifying the role of jets and nuclear winds as drivers of the outflows

Rationale

We propose a 2-day Focus Discussion as part of the program of the next IAU General Assembly 2018.
We suggest as coordinating the Cross-Division D-J Commission "Supermassive Black Holes, Feedback and Galaxy Evolution".
The topic is timely because larger samples of objects are starting to be observed with ALMA and new HI surveys with SKA pathfinders/precursors should start in 2017.
