Under One Sky: Astronomy around the World | Lithuania

This video highlights the 100 years anniversary of the IAU and provides a brief look at astronomy in Lithuania. Highlights include the establishment of the first professional observatory at the Vilnius University in 1753, creation of the Vilnius Photometric System in 1965, establishment of the Moletai Astronomical Observatory in 1969, and its current-day instrumentation. International projects in which Lithuania has participated that are highlighted include the Gaia-ESO Spectroscopic Survey, the Whole Earth Telescope and EUROPLANET consortia, and ground-based observations for the Kepler, Gaia, TESS, and PLATO Space Missions.

To commemorate this milestone, the IAU is organising a year-long celebration to increase awareness of a century of astronomical discoveries and technological progress as well as to support and improve the use of astronomy as a tool for education, development and diplomacy under the central theme Under One Sky.
