Celebrating Astronomy around the world, one story at a time

The IAU Global Outreach Events are international outreach activities supported by the IAU outreach office, with the intent of promoting and disseminating best practices internationally. These events are developed and implemented by independent organisers internationally and we encourage outreach professionals, educators, amateur and professional astronomers, to share their stories and join our inspiring outreach community.

Current Projects

Meet the IAU Astronomers! call for interest to IAU members & outreach events organisers

With "Meet the IAU Astronomers!" we encourage teachers, informal educators, amateur astronomers, to organize a virtual meetup with an IAU Astronomer to talk to students, parents and the general public about astronomy, the importance of astronomy for society, and choosing astronomy as a career.

Participate in the Online Astronomy@Home Awards

As many of us turn online to stay connected with our communities through astronomy, we wish to recognise the incredible and inspiring efforts various event organisers worldwide are carrying out during the upcoming months.

A Call to Action from the International Astronomical Union Offices.

This is an urgent call to action during this unprecedented global pandemic, as the world struggles to contain the spread of COVID-19. We need to do whatever we can to help tackle this pandemic as well as its collateral effects on society.

We believe astronomy and the broader scientific community has a wide range of expertise and resources which could help the current situation.

Dark & Quiet Skies Awareness: Join our IAU Endorsed Programmes

In collaboration with the IAU Dark Skies Ambassadors, Dark Skies for All & B7 – Inter-Division B-C Commission Protection of Existing and Potential Observatory Sites the IAU will raise awareness of dark and quiet skies by endorsing actions during and around the International Day of Light on 16 May 2020. The IAU OAO intends to bring together the IAU Dark Skies Ambassadors as agents of change in crucial topics for dark skies advocacy, such as satellite constellation awareness, and natural right to view the sky, in addition to promoting independent events by astronomy communicators related to dark and quiet skies.
