Obituary:

Prof. Semanur Engin was one of the founding members of the Turkish Astronomical Society. She was graduated from Ankara University, Science Faculty, Department of Mathematics-Astronomy in 1963. She was a visiting researcher at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste in Italy for working with Prof. Margherita Hack on chemical composition of peculiar stars. She obtained the PhD degree in 1967. Later, she became a professor in the same department and she was heading the Ankara University Astronomy and Space Sciences Department between 1993-1996 and 1998-2003 periods, until she has been retired. Prof. Engin has initiated research activities on stellar atmospheres and on chemical abundances in stars in Ankara University and made a significant contribution to the establishment of a research group in this field.
