Obituary:
In 1957 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Kharkiv State University. In 1966 he defended Ph.D. thesis "Results of Surface Photographic Photometry of Jupiter". Since 1967 he worked at the university as senior teacher and associate professor, from 1977 to 2004 he headed the Department of Astronomy, from 2004 to March 2015 worked as a Professor of the Department of Astronomy, and from April 2015 to January 2016 was a Professor-consultant of this department.
Yu.V. Alexandrov was the Laureate of N.P. Barabashov Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1982) as well as awarded with a M.V. Keldysh Gold Medal (1988). The International Astronomical Union has assigned an asteroid No 18751 named YuAlexandrov for his educational and scientific achievements. He was a member of the International Astronomical Union, a member of the Physics Commission of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and of other commissions. Research fields - physics of planetary atmospheres, multidimensional cosmology, history and methodology of astronomy, methods of teaching astronomy, development of systems of astroorientation of spacecraft. His lecturer activity was concerned with courses as "History and Methodology of Astronomy", "Problems of Modern Astrophysics", "Introduction to Cosmonautics", "Astrodynamics". Yu.V. Aleksandrov is the author of several monographs and books: "Introduction to Planetary Physics", "Physics of the Planets", "Heavenly Mechanics", "Astronomy. Historical and methodological plot "," Chemistry and geology of planets "," Fundamentals of relativistic cosmology ", "Fundamentals of multidimensional cosmology ", and" Introduction to cosmonautics", "Mechanics of continuous media. Astrophysical applications”.
